There has been a lot of controversy surrounding whether the Waterpik Water Flosser is better than traditional string floss when cleaning your teeth. Personally, I recommend traditional dental floss as the best way to clean in between the teeth in the morning and at night.

However, the Waterpik is an incredible supplemental tool to help reduce gum disease for those that have difficulty keeping their mouth healthy. It's a perfect tool for those with gum recession or with people that have a variety of dental implants in their mouth. 

Today, we are going to review the corded & cordless Waterpik Water Flosser 

What is the Best Waterpik Water Flosser in 2020 ?!


The short answer . . . . 
Waterpik offers a corded & cordless version of their water flosser. . . Both are incredibly useful devices that help people keep their gums healthy. I personally prefer the cordless Waterpik because it can be used in the shower which makes a bit less of a mess when cleaning the plaque out of your teeth. 
now, let's jump into the details . . .

How to use the Waterpik 

It took me quite some time to figure out how the pieces come together but I eventually made it work.

The waterpik reservoir which is typically filled to the brim with luke warm water. I would definitely avoid using cold water if your teeth have a tendency to be hypersensitive just like mine. 

After you have filled the reservoir, you have the option of picking from a variety of tips. This particular waterpik comes with 5 tip iterations which focus on hygiene for people with braces, implants & deep pockets. Waterpik did an absolutely awesome job with the design.

 A simple flick of the wrist allows you to interchange the tips with ease. 

On the side, we can see a round nob which toggles between different intensities of pressurized water. Each rotation of the dial increases the water pressure by 10 PSI. If you dare, bump it up to the highest setting but I would warn you, it is super powerful!

The button below allows you to switch to a massaging mode where it shoots water out in intervals instead of a smooth continuous flow. 


Waterpik to Clean Gums & Teeth

So now, I want to be able to show you guys at home how to operate this device.I have the machine filled to the brim & its on my preferred setting of 60 PSI.

 I prefer to orient the device in my mouth before turning the the tip on. I like to start from the lower right side of my mouth & angle it at the gumline one tooth at a time.

If I want to spit, I turn the machine off and once I’m done i go back to where i left off until I’ve cleaned every area of the mouth. . 

My Thoughts After Using the Water Flosser  

I’ve been using this product for about a week now & I have to admit that Im really enjoying it. 

I feel as though the pressurized water gets into those hard to reach spots & in general my mouth feels healthier & cleaner. I definitely see value for people who despise the traditional method of flossing or are unable to floss due to difficult motor control movements. 

The evidence based research has made it clear that the waterpik shouldn’t replace proper string flossing but it is an awesome alternative for those that feel like they need a better hygiene routine.


THE WATERPIK WATER FLOSSER TIPS

The next big difference we need to talk about involves the variety of different tips Waterpik offers

THE CLASSIC TIP

The Classic Tip is the standard attachment that is used with most Waterpiks. It is meant to clean between the teeth and help prevent gum disease in the mouth. I stick with the classic jet tip when using my Aquarius Waterpik.  

Waterpik recommends that you replace the tip every 6 months but it really depends on the frequency of use. 

ORTHODONTIC TIP

The Orthodontic Tip is tapered and is meant for people that have braces. Braces are incredibly difficult to clean as food gets stuck between the bands and wires wrapped around the mouth. I HIGHLY recommend buying a Waterpik if you have braces. I can't tell you how many kids have multiple cavities after their braces are complete.

Waterpik recommends that you replace the tip every 3 months. 

Plaque Seeker Tip

The Plaque Seeker® Tip has tufts of bristles that removes debris & plaque around most restorations. I recommend this tip for people that have crowns, bridges, implants, veneers & other major restorative work.

Waterpik recommends that you replace the tip every 3 months.   

Pik Pocket Tip

The Pik PocketTM Tip is meant to access deep pockets for patients with severe gum disease. Some patients have severe recession & this tip is recommended to access the furcations of the teeth. Waterpik has special instructions when using this tip. They say that this tip should be used at the lowest PSI 

Waterpik recommends that you replace the tip every 3 months.  

WATERPIK WATER FLOSSER MODES  

Water Pressure 

The water pressure varies for each particular model. Some models offer pressures up to 100 PSI while other are not as powerful. I personally like to use my water pressure at around 50 PSI because it doesn't hurt my gums as much. 

Massage Mode 

Some models have a pulsating mode which shoots water out in intervals rather then one continuous stream. 

Waterpik Timer

Some models have a timer which delivers a short pause at 30 seconds which indicates that you should clean the other half of your mouth. The company recommends you use the Waterpik for a total of one minute. 

THE CORDLESS WATERPIK

The cordless Waterpik has a smaller reservoir and is meant to increase convenience as use as you can take it into the shower or other areas of the house without having to make sure its continually plugged in . . . The main options for cordless includes: Cordless Advanced, Cordless Plus, Cordless Freedom, Cordless & Cordless Express. Let's run down the list. . . 

Cordless Advanced Water Flosser

This is the most premium cordless Waterpik on the market. It stands out from the other cordless iterations primarily due to its "ultra quiet" mode, magnetic 4 hour rapid charger, "push" button & travel bag. It runs for approximately $100 & has a 2 year warranty according to the company website.
